The objective of this workshop was to share and promote European standards and technologies, as well as to transfer knowledge on the performance drivers of ATM (safety, capacity, environmental impact) and how automation and interoperability are key enablers for achieve them. It also promoted the global and regional approaches which are necessary to obtain the benefits of automation and interoperability, with a focus on the European experience as a reference for implementation.

The participants were provided with a holistic view of Air Traffic Management through the common thread of automation, interoperability, innovation and strategic outlooks of the field. They gained insight on the importance of regional and global approaches in ATM, with particular emphasis on the European approach at regulatory, operational and technology levels. This provided them insight into the needs for automation and interoperability in order to face the challenges in ATM, and foster their buy-in to such technologies and the frameworks necessary for implementation.
