On 21 December 2021 EASA signed a Contribution Agreement with EC's Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI) for a new project “EU-Latin America and the Caribbean Cooperation on Civil Aviation II (EU LAC APP II)”.
​
The new contract will be a continuation of the current EU LAC APP I, which comes to an end on 31 May 2022 after 4,5 years.
The new contract will run from 1 June 2022 until 31 May 2025 with the total budget of 4 million EUR.

The analysis in the review provides a statistical summary across all domains of operation and is split into sections covering:

•aerodromes / ground handling and
•air traffic management / air traffic navigation services.
The ASR identifies the most important safety challenges faced in European aviation today and supports the decision making for the next edition of the European Plan for Aviation Safety (EPAS) to further improve aviation safety and environmental protection throughout Europe.
EASA publishes proposed standards for certification of light drones

COLOGNE, July 20, 2020 - The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has published a proposal of airworthiness standards for the certification of the vast majority of light unmanned aircraft. These standards will greatly contribute to the safe operation of drones for a wide variety of services, such as parcel delivery in urban environments, railways and power lines inspection or delivery of essential supplies into crisis zones.

EASA strengthens ties with Central American Safety Agency
New Memorandum of Understanding signed
EASA and COCESNA/ACSA (Central American Aviation Safety Agency) signed on 10 April 2018 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on closer cooperation in aviation safety. This MoU is the cornerstone of the close relationship between the two institutions and will pave the way for concrete cooperation activities, such as EASA’s support for the implementation of a common pilot licence in the region. The MoU was signed by Mr Jorge Vargas, Executive President of COCESNA, and Mr Luc Tytgat, EASA Strategy and Safety Management Director, in the presence of the President of the ICAO Council, Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu.
ACSA, a division of COCESNA (Corporación Centroamericana de Servicios de Navegación Aérea), is the Regional Safety Oversight Organisation of the six Central American countries (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Belize).

Launch of EU-LAC project financed by EU and implemented by EASA

EU-Latin America cooperation on Civil Aviation (EU-LAC) starts on 1st January 2018 and will run for 4 years.

The overall objective of the project is to enhance political, economic and environmental partnership between the EU and Latin America in the domain of civil aviation.
The specific objective of the project is to promote EU standards, strengthen regulatory cooperation and facilitate market access for EU aviation industry in Latin America, as well as minimise the impact of aviation on the environment and climate change. The project will particularly focus on Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

Areas of intervention will include establishing a dialogue on environmental policy, sustainable partnerships in education, and regulatory and technical cooperation based on EU standards. The project will also raise the profile and visibility of the EU as an aviation centre of excellence when engaging in this partnership.
EASA signs Delegation Agreement with European Commission

EASA signs a delegation agreement with the European Commission on 11 December 2017 to manage an EU Project to support the Civil Aviation sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The name of the new project is EU-Latin America Cooperation on Civil Aviation (EU-LAC).
